A shared hobby

My husband is a fabulous woodworker. He has made many pieces of furniture for our house - 3 sets of bookcases, a large L shaped computer desk and a TV stand with my son. He loves spending hours in the garage "making sawdust".

I, on the other hand, have different hobbies: I occasionally like to make beaded jewelry or work on home improvement projects, I like to read and spend time on the computer.

The problem is that most of our hobbies are individual hobbies. We do like to go on walks together and we like to travel but $ is a factor and we can't travel as much as we'd like.

We've been talking about having a shared hobby and previously discussed that combining our fitness goals with walking and taking photos. So, this past Christmas I purchased a Nikon D5000 digital SLR camera for my husband and created a 50week Photo Date coupon to encourage our new hobby. The 50 date coupon is based on a book called " 50 Photo Projects: Ideas to kick-start your Photography" by Lee Frost. Each chapter gives you ideas for shooting photos like architecture with attitude, blur-blur-blur, food for thought, etc. We've enjoyed pouring through the ideas and planning out photo dates.

In between I am going to take on the 365 photo challenge again with the EduBloggers at http://www.flickr.com/groups/edtech365/

I am really looking forward to participating this year and think I can make it past February with the 50 photo date project with my hubby.

Happy Shooting everyone!
